v  Student and Affinity Group Activities:

       l  2nd edition of Tech Fest of Aliah University AURA 2025 held during 25th to 27th February 2025 and hosted by Aliah University in collaboration with its Institution’s Innovation Council was technically sponsored by IEEE PES Kolkata Section.

 l  IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Kolkata Chapter jointly with Electrical Engineering department of Narula Institute of Technology, Kolkata organized Hackathon _Hack- O_NiT the flagship overnight hackathon of Kritanj 2025 during 20th and 21st of March 2025

v  Professional and Technical Activities:

 l  IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Kolkata Chapter jointly with Electrical Engineering Department, Jadavpur University, and Indian society of lighting engineers (ISLE) organized national science congress on Illumination (Luminescence 2025, Surface Charging of Polymeric Insulators at Low Pressure Conditions) at K P Basu Memorial Hall, Jadavpur University, Kolkata during 6th to 7th, February 2025.

 l  Circuistics, sponsored by the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Chapter, Kolkata Section, was held in two rounds - the Prelims (21st February 2025), and the Finals (22nd February 2025).

 l  The Power & Energy Society Chapter of IEEE Kolkata Section, in collaboration with the Electrical Engineering Department of Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad organized 2025 IEEE 1st International Conference on Smart and Sustainable Developments in Electrical Engineering (SSDEE) held from 28th February to 2nd March 2025 at Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India.

 l  The Power & Energy Society Chapter of IEEE Kolkata Section, in collaboration with the Electrical Engineering Department of Gargi Memorial Institute of Technology organized The International Conference "SMART TECHNOLOGY FOR EMERGING PROBLEMS (STEP – 2K25)", held at Gargi Memorial Institute of Technology (GMIT) on March 21-22, 2025.

l  Power & Energy Society (PES) Chapter of IEEE Kolkata Section organized Distinguished Lecture (DL) Program on Model Predictive Control for Microgrids: From Power Electronic Converters to Energy on June 27, 2025 in online mode. Professor Syed Mofizul Islam, Professor Syed Islam, FIEEE, FIET, FIEAust, CPEng, Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) and Dean of the School of Science Engineering and Information Technology at Federation University Australia was the distinguished speaker.

 l  A Technical lecture meeting ???????? "Communication aspects in Advanced Metering Infrastructure in Smart Grid” was held on 25th July, 2025 at Seminar Hall, Electrical Engineering. Department Jadavpur University. The lecture was followed by an award ceremony. Prof. Jitendra Nath Bera awarded with Chapter Outstanding Engineer Award (OEA) 2024 In recognition of his contributions in growth and sustenance of the PES Kolkata Chapter.

 l  IEEE PES Kolkata Chapter has organized an online technical lecture meeting by Dr. Bikash Pal, Professor of Power Systems at Imperial College London (ICL) on “Optimal Voltage Ride-Through of IBR-Dominated Power Systems” on 21st August, 2025.

 l  To enhance IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) visibility and foster global collaboration, IEEE PES Chapter Kolkata Section, organized a two-days Outreach Program titled “Spark Interest in Electric Power and Energy (SIEPE 2025) among School Students” on 10th and 11th October 2025 at “The Stadel” Kolkata.  

 l  The Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM) Kolkata, University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Kolkata, in collaboration with IEEE Kolkata Section and IEEE PES Kolkata section, successfully organized the 1st International Conference on Artificial Intelligence for Computing, Astronomy, and Renewable Energy (AICARE 2025) on 21st and 22nd November 2025 at the IEM Kolkata Newtown campus.

 l  The Power & Energy Society (PES) Chapter of the IEEE Kolkata Section, in collaboration with IEEE Kolkata Section and Department of Electrical Engineering, Jadavpur University, organised a Distinguished Lecture Meeting by Prof. Bikash Pal, Professor of Power Systems at Imperial College London (ICL) and IEEE PES President-Elect 2026 on December 17, 2025 at Seminar Room, Electrical Engineering Department, Jadavpur University. 

v  Educational Activities:

     l  IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Kolkata Chapter jointly with Electrical Engineering Department of Netaji Subhash Engineering College, Kolkata organized invited talk event ???????? "Plan your Engineering Education for a professionally Rewarding career” on April 5, 2025 at Netaji Subhash Engineering College, Kolkata.

Student Activities

• AURA 2024, the first-ever technical project competition held at Aliah University, technically sponsored by IEEE PES Kolkata Chapter, was a landmark event designed to foster collaboration and showcase the technical expertise of students and researchers of this university. Date of the event: 7th March 2024.

• IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Kolkata Chapter jointly with Jadavpur University EE Students’ Forum organized Eureka! of Convolution 2024, an Annual Techno-Managerial Meet, hosted at Electrical Engineering Department, Jadavpur University from March 15th to 17th, 2024.

• A section of students visited Bakreswar Thermal Power Plant on 10th November 2024, facilitated by IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Kolkata Chapter.

• IEEE PES Affinity Groups (WIP, YP, etc.) organize an Essay Competition for Students (WIEECOM 2024). The essay submissions were open from Friday, June 28, 2024, to Thursday, July 25, 2024

Industry-academia activities

• The IEEE PES Kolkata Chapter had organized a lecture meeting to celebrate IEEE PES Day 2024 on the theme “Empowering Electric Mobility Innovation” on April 23, 2024, at CCL lab, 1st Floor, Electrical Engineering Department of Jadavpur University.

• To exchange the knowledge among the ER utilities, Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre (ERLDC) in technical collaboration with IEEE PES Kolkata Chapter organized a two days HRD training program on “Reactive Power Management” on 19th and 20th August 2024 at Hyatt Centric Ballygunge, Kolkata.

• IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Kolkata Chapter jointly with University of Engineering & Management, Kolkata, organized an One Day Seminar and Exhibition on “Energy and Sustainability: A Social Mission” hosted at Electrical Engineering Department, University of Engineering & Management, Kolkata on March 16th, 2024.

• IEEE PES Kolkata Chapter and Gargi Memorial Institute of Technology (GMIT), Kolkata has organized the technical fest, "GEMISHA," on March 28, 2024, at Gargi Memorial Institute of Technology (GMIT), Kolkata.

• The Power & Energy Society Chapter of IEEE Kolkata Section, in collaboration with the Electrical Engineering Department of Jadavpur University, Kolkata, has organized Industry collaborative lecture program on June 13, 2024, at Seminar Hall, Electrical Engineering Department of Jadavpur University.

• The Power & Energy Society Chapter of IEEE Kolkata Section, in collaboration with the Electrical Engineering Department of Netaji Subhash Engineering College, Kolkata, has organized technical lecture program on “Machine Learning and Its Applications” on June 24, 2024, at R. N. Tagore Hall, Netaji Subhash Engineering College.

• The Power & Energy Society Chapter of IEEE Kolkata Section, in collaboration with the Electrical Engineering Department of Netaji Subhash Engineering College, Kolkata, has organized Technical lecture program on IPR for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on July 04, 2024 at R. N. Tagore Hall, Netaji Subhash Engineering College.

• The Power & Energy Society Chapter of IEEE Kolkata Section organized PES Distinguished Lecture (DL) Program on Advanced Prediction Techniques Applied to Smart Grids in online mode on Thursday, July 18, 2024, 3:00 P.M. (IST).

• IEEE PES Kolkata Chapter and Department of Applied Physics, University of Calcutta organized a technical Symposium on “Challenges and solutions for integrating renewable energy into existing power grids” on 26th October 2024 at Dr. Meghnad Saha Auditorium, Rajabazar Science College Campus, University of Calcutta.

• IEEE PES Kolkata Chapter and Department of Applied Physics, University of Calcutta organized a technical Lecture on “Challenges of Large-Scale Renewable Energy Integration-Global and Indian Power System Perspective” on 27th October 2024.

• IEEE PES Kolkata Chapter and Department of Applied Physics, University of Calcutta organized a technical Seminar on “Recent Research Trend and Perspectives of Sustainable Energy Storage Battery for Renewable Energy Generation and Integration in India” on 26th October 2024.

Distinguished Lecture Program

The Power & Energy Society Chapter of IEEE Kolkata Section organized PES Distinguished Lecture (DL) Program on Advanced Prediction Techniques Applied to Smart Grids in online mode on Tuesday, 25th July, 2023, 3:00 P.M. (IST). Speaker was Prof. C.Y. Chung, PhD, P.Eng, FHKIE, FAAIA Chair Professor of Power Systems Engineering and Head, Founding Director of Research Centre for Grid Modernization, Department of Electrical Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, HK SAR, China.

v Technical Activity

1.      Power & Energy Society (PES), IEEE, Kolkata Section jointly with Gargi Memorial Institute of Technology (GMIT) Electrical Engineering (EE) department of Gargi Memorial Institute of Technology (GMIT) organized a One Week Virtual Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Present Scenario and Future Scope of Research and Advancement in the field of EVs & Renewable Energy Sector”.

2.      The Electrical Engineering Department of St. Thomas’ College of Engineering & Technology (STCET), jointly with the IEEE PES Kolkata Chapter organized a Technical Seminar on “Smart Grid & Smart Home for Energy Conservation” on 27^th April, Thursday, 2023.
